being agile

I recently came across a blog discussing the trend of Agile Design process. My boss encouraged me to find out more about it to see how we can implement it here at Blue Daring. Agile Design process is born from the software development method, Agile Method, that is based on iterative development, where requirements and solutions evolve, as different teams collaborate together on a project. Basically, you make a prototype and then you have people try it out and get their feedback, and make changes to improve, and then repeat. David Kelly believes that how quickly you create an initial prototype is directly proportional to how successful a product will be, referring to it as “enlightened trial and error.”

This method seems like a natural fit for the design process. The design process is one that is collaborative and open to critique, and iterative in nature. As a designer, I want to be as efficient and constructive as time and budgets will allow. We provide services in an extremely competitive field, filled with buzz words such as user-centered design, information architecture, usability, optimization and user experience. All of these terms pertain to the goal of creating something for a client that is successful on many different levels. Agile Design is a continual process with the purpose of making something function smarter and better, and with the ability to always change.
